For nine generations Pert Lowell Co., Inc. has fashioned traditional wood hardware for vessels rigged as they were in the 1700-hundreds. This traditional design has been combined with modern functionality to create these oak ward-room accessories for the enjoyment and pleasure of the nautically minded. Of interest to the collector of authentic nautical furnishings, Pert Lowell Co. built the hanks which are featured in abundance in the recently released movie 'Master and Commander'. Now hanks similar to this bit of maritime history can grace your ward-room table. Sail hanks were originally designed to connect the sails to the shrouds. Hanks are bent from solid oak strips carefully selected to assure absolutely straight grain. If the wood strip is not carefully selected, the wood will fracture during the bending process. Before being bent the wood soaks in boiling water for at least one hour. Hoop sizes are designated according to the time-honored tradition of specifying the circumference of the shroud.Available for 8" and 6" shrouds. |
