North Carolina Barns

A G.E. Grey Screen Saver Overview

The family farm is just outside of Wilson, North Carolina, where Grey attended Atlantic Christian College (now Barton) during the late sixties. She returns frequently to visit relatives and friends, or to vacation at the shore. Her work has been featured on the front page of The Kenly News, and is sometimes seen at The Tobacco Farm Life Museum in Kenly.

The barns have always been an image in my mind's eye and in my life. It is a great personal and almost inexpressible sadness to me to see them disappearing or falling into ruin. Their familiar shapes and colors, the texture of the green tarpaper covering, and their tin roofs all have an almost fairytale quality for me. They are so connected to my every thought of my grandfather and my childhood vacations to the farm that I cannot imagine the landscape without them.
