Tom's Bio

Tom himself I'm originally from Utica in upstate New York. I went to college at the State University of New York at Oswego where I graduated in Media Arts. After leaving NY, I worked for nearly 20 years as a professional TV news photographer & editor in the American west, mostly in New Mexico and Colorado. I've won numerous awards during my photography career, including ones from the Albuquerque Press Club, The National Press Photographers Association and a regional Emmy Award.

In the early 90s, my wife, Stephanie Debrine and I moved to Socorro following her fathers death to help her mother run family businesses. I went to work for New Mexico Tech a few years later and retired in 2012 from the Distance Education Dept. Since then I've devoted myself to my great passion of photography.

My personal photography has always been about trying to capture the mysterious beauty and magic that I see and sense in the world around me. In that regard, I've been very blessed with having the beautiful state of New Mexico become my home, particularly Socorro, a town I've come to love and appreciate very much. The famous western photographer, Edward Weston said New Mexico is... "Where the heavens and the earth become one." I couldn't agree more with that quote and I strive to make my photography reflect that. They don't call this place "The Land of Enchantment" for nothing. It's turned out to be the perfect place for me.
